I am an individual and family therapist, working for over 25 years providing counselling and psychotherapy for individual adults and youth, parents and families. My clients are often seeking relief from feelings of anxiety and depression, difficult life transitions, grief and loss, relationship struggles, and parenting challenges. Through a safe, trusting and collaborative therapeutic process, the opportunities for change and growth are possible. In our very busy world, it can be extremely important to have a therapeutic space in which to explore thoughts and feelings in order to make sense of difficult situations and provide emotional relief. I help clients integrate their feelings, thoughts and behaviours to increase self-awareness, develop more successful coping abilities and strengthen their important relationships.
As a clinical social worker I have training in a variety of therapy models. It is my experience that drawing from a range of theoretical perspectives allows for flexibility in the therapeutic process in order to best address the concerns clients bring to therapy. My practice is informed by family systems, psychodynamic therapy and emotionally focussed therapy perspectives. I also incorporate mindfulness techniques and cognitive behavioural strategies (CBT) in the therapeutic process when helpful.
In addition to my private practice I also work in the public sector with youth and families. I have a Masters degree in Social Work, am registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and am a member in good standing with the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). My practice has also included the training and supervision of Masters of Social Work students in clinical settings. My commitment to professional development has been consistent and remains a priority.
Many extended health insurance plans now cover the services of registered social workers. If you have a benefit plan receipts are provided for reimbursement. The services of a registered social worker are also tax deductible as a medical expense.
